Peek in2it
Your Get IN2IT Challenge runs from Monday to Sunday and a new challenge starts each
week. Make sure you enter all your information by Monday each week so you get all
the PEADS (Points for Eating and Doing Stuff) you've earned.
It's easy to keep track of activity you do and what you're eating. Print the
Cool Moves Journal
and
Eat Right Journal.
Post them on your fridge, put them in your school binder. Don't use up brain space
trying to remember everything you did and ate – write it down!
Who's in2it
Meet the Grade 4/5 class at Mornington Central P.S. in Newton Ontario. This rural
school has 156 students and is close to Stratford Ontario. Many students are Mennonite
and part of German speaking families. The whole class is doing the Get IN2IT Challenge!
There are 23 students in Mrs. A's Grade 4/5 class at Mornington Central P.S. I found
out some really cool stuff about them...
- 10 kids live in the town and 13 live on a farm
- All the kids take a bus or get a ride to school. The school is on a highway so riding
a bike or walking is not safe
- 10 kids have fun in organized physical activity outside of school
- 22 kids have fun in unorganized physical activity outside of school
- 15 kids have a computer and/or video games at home
- 8 kids do not have a TV in their home
- 5 kids watch TV when they get home from school
- 21 kids help with grocery shopping, and 19 help decide at least one meal for the
week
- 2 kids have take-out food 1 -2 times a week, and one has take-out more than 3 times
a week
- If choosing a drink 12 would pick pop, 6 milk and 5 water
- 2 kids talk with friends using MSN
Mrs. A is the teacher for this class and they call her the 'Health Nut' because
she enjoys physical activity and making healthy food choices. Mrs. A's class is
treated to 'Green Smoothies' on special days. Hey, if you have a smoothie recipe
to share with this class send it to us at info@goodlifekids.com.
I'll talk to Mrs. A's class again soon and let you know how great they are doing
at the Get IN2IT Challenge.
NUF Stuff
Check out the Fun Zone for Jump & Rhyme Time.
Can you come up with a story or rhyme about being active? Send us yours and we may
feature it on this site. Here's one I wrote – I hope you like it.
Jump, Hop, Skip and Jump
I'll just keep jumping and never stop!
Bounce the ball, Kick the ball, Spin the ball around.
Playing with my friends is the most fun of all!
Blast in2it
It can be so easy to start being more active. Try adding just 5 minutes a day more
than what you already do. Take a 5 minute walk – walk for 2.5 minutes away from
home and then 2.5 minutes back. See, that was soooo easy. Maybe next week you can
make it a 10 minute walk. You can do it!
Measure food servings the easy way – use your hand.
- The palm of your hand is a good measurement for one serving of meat, fish or poultry.
- One cup (250ml) looks like your fist
- Do you like to play cards? One serving of meat, fish or poultry is equal to the
size of a deck of cards

of your body, 80% of your blood and 70% of your muscle? Now I know why water is
so important to drink. My body really needs it!
