How Much Should we Eat?
Canada’s Food guide is a great way to start to understand just how much all of us should be eating. Once you understand the basic food groups and how to define a serving size (usually if you can hold it in the palm of your hand it’s 1 serving!) the rest is just about mixing it up and keeping it fun!
What are Food Groups?
Canada 's Food Guide divides food into four groups. Here are the groups, and some examples of what kinds of foods go into them.
What is a Serving?
Whether it’s a slice, a piece of fruit a cut of meat, a cup or teaspoon, Canada’s Food Guide provides you all the definitions. As a rule of thumb - usually if you can hold it in the palm of your hand it’s 1 serving!
Food Labels

The Whine
Foods that are good for us don’t always look, smell or taste as good as candy or cookies to our kids. All we can do is make eating food as fun, creative and healthy as possible and just keep trying to add more and more of the ‘good stuff’ into their diets one meal or snack at a time.
