Spin4Kids 2019 is still two months away, but Jordana Silver has already fundraised over $1,600—more than most teams of 8 fundraise collectively. She’s currently the second highest fundraiser across the entire country, and there are a number of reasons why.
Jordana has a story to tell. She joined GoodLife Fitness as a Member in 2001, back when she was an overweight teenager. Since beginning her fitness journey, Jordana has lost half her body weight. She understands the importance of physical activity and knows the value of introducing the fundamentals of fitness at a young age.
Jordana is also legally blind and has a learning disability. She’s a big advocate for GoodLife Kids Foundation’s mission to help kids with special needs experience the joys and benefits of being active.
“It means so much to me to help these kids get active, because I didn’t have the opportunity as a child,” she says. “I hope to show other Associates and Members that even with my own challenges, we can make a difference for kids with special needs.”
Jordana has worked as a Motivator at Toronto Mount Pleasant and Davisville Club for 12 years. Thanks to her long career and warm personality, she’s created real, long-lasting friendships with Members. Many of these Members now sponsor Jordana for Spin4Kids every year.
Last year, Jordana raised almost $5,000 on her own—making her the third highest fundraiser in Canada.
“If you don’t try, you don’t know,” she says. “When I first started, I didn’t think I could reach my goal of $125.”
Jordana first got involved with Spin4Kids 5 years ago as a Participant, and was immediately hooked by the party-like atmosphere. She loved participating in the one-day event, but she was so passionate about the cause, she knew she could do more. She took on the role of Mount Pleasant’s Club Champion, the person in charge of organizing Spin4Kids for her Club.
Beyond being an incredible fundraiser, Jordana loves to spread the word about GoodLife Kids Foundation to other Associates, Members, and friends. She doesn’t just support the foundation leading up to Spin4Kids—she advocates for the cause year round.
Jordana believes in the importance of paying it forward. As a GoodLife Member, she was able to lose weight and get healthy. Now, she gives back to GoodLife Kids Foundation to help more kids get on track to a healthier life.
“I hope that I can inspire other Associates to get involved in the cause and help Members understand what the foundation is all about,” she says. “Every year, I look forward to Spin4Kids. It’s such an amazing, worthy cause—giving children with special needs the opportunity to live a fit and healthy good life.”
GoodLife Kids Foundation ambassadors like Jordana are incredibly important to the success of events like Spin4Kids and made major contributions to the $920,000 raised through Spin4Kids in 2018. If you or someone you know is committed to breaking down barriers and helping kids with special needs get active, share your story for a chance to be featured!
